About Jamie Mahaffey

Welcome to Mahaffey Incorporated LLC. My greatest transformation did not come from athletic championships or professional success—it was forged in unexpected battles. Through faith, surrender, and resilience, I discovered that life's detours are not roadblocks; they are the path to our divine purpose.

THE ROOTS OF MY RESILIENCE. THE FOUNDATION OF MY LEGACY.

James & Gloria Mahaffey

A Father's Standard. A Mother's Love. A Legacy That Lives On.

Before I became a husband, father, author, or mentor, James and Gloria Mahaffey shaped the man I would become.

My father taught me integrity, discipline, and the importance of carrying our family name with honor. My mother demonstrated unconditional love, sacrifice, and the power of keeping family connected.

Their example became the foundation of how I live, lead, love, and serve today.

My father gave me a STANDARD to live by. My mother gave me a HEART to serve with. God gave me a PURPOSE to fulfill.

Now, my responsibility is to turn their lessons into a LEGACY.

My History: The Life Behind the Message

I’m Jamie Mahaffey—a husband, father, former professional basketball player, educator, coach, author, speaker, and mentor. Raised by James and Gloria Mahaffey, I learned that faith, hard work, and integrity are responsibilities we carry into everyday life. My parents taught me to respect our family name through how I treated people, honored commitments, and handled challenges.

Basketball took me from Roger Bacon High School in Cincinnati to Miami University, then to about seven years of professional basketball across six countries. Over  3 decades in education and roughly two decades of high school coaching, including three state championships, I found purpose in helping young people develop character alongside their abilities.

Then life challenged me in ways no game could prepare me for. Years of heart disease led to a heart transplant in January 2024, followed by the amputation of my right leg below the knee and the toes on my left foot. Recovery required me to accept help, relearn everyday tasks, and trust God through uncertainty. My understanding of strength grew to include vulnerability, patience, and surrender.

Those experiences became the foundation of The Power of Detours—From Affliction to Awakening and deepened the purpose behind Mahaffey Inc., LLC. As a John Maxwell Certified Leadership Coach and Speaker, I share my Story, Struggle, Surrender, and Significance to help others care for themselves, lead with integrity, and recognize the value they still have to give.

Our Family History: The People Behind the Purpose

Robyn and I married on December 19, 1997. Together, we have built our home around faith, love, education, and accountability. Through demanding schedules, parenting decisions, celebrations, and seasons of uncertainty, we have continued learning what it means to show up for one another.

Robyn is my wife, an educator of 3 decades, a mother, and the administrator of Mahaffey Inc., LLC. Her leadership extends from our home into the classroom and community. During my recovery, she carried responsibilities that affected our entire family while walking beside me through an uncertain future. Her contribution belongs at the heart of our story.

Danielle, our daughter, built her own path as a Division I volleyball athlete at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, earning All-American recognition and pursuing her education. She completed a master’s degree in special education and entered the teaching profession. In July 2026, she married Da'jon Terry, beginning a new chapter while carrying forward the faith, commitment, and care for others we worked to nurture at home.

Evan, our son, has navigated collegiate basketball at Penn State, Ohio State, and Akron while continuing his academic growth and pursuing an MBA. His journey has brought opportunities to practice patience, adapt to change, and keep working when the path requires a new direction.

Eric, our youngest son, has continued his basketball and educational journey from Akron to the University of Cincinnati, where he studies communication and broadcasting. Watching him develop his own voice, confidence, and sense of responsibility reminds us that parenting includes giving our children room to grow into the people God has called them to become.

Raising three Division I athletes gave us countless reasons to celebrate, but our deepest commitment has always been to who our children become beyond competition. Their character, faith, relationships, and willingness to serve matter long after a season ends.

Mahaffey Inc., LLC carries that family commitment into our work: live the standards we teach, invest in people, and leave the next generation a foundation they can build upon.
